HP Omen 15: it’s a powerful and fast gaming laptop with cool performance and first-rate visuals. However, its sizable dimensions and considerable weight make it uncomfortable to transport the laptop regularly.
HP Omen is back with a gaming beast
Pros:
- Good at multitasking
- Comfortable streaming
- Excellent performance in games
- Amazing display
Cons:
- Cumbersome design due to the components
- Steep price point
- Mediocre battery performance
HP Omen 15 – this is a bulky and heavy gadget, and its battery life isn’t the longest. Nevertheless, it can be a valuable unit when it comes to challenging games. Apart from excellent performance, it offers superior picture quality, great sound, and a non-glare gaming monitor.
The HP Omen 15 – the best cheap gaming laptop is able to fit the diverse preferences of its users. It handles both casual PC games and more demanding cybersport products. In addition, it seamlessly streams popular TV channels, YouTube, and all sorts of video content.
Omen 15 makes listening to music, playing AAA games, and executing daily tasks quite enjoyable. The device is multifunctional and feels reliable. Besides, it is amazingly good at coping with heavy workloads.
The HP Omen 15 laptop is an excellent choice for big screen lovers. Its anti-glare display with a scan rate of 144Hz delivers a clear and detailed picture. Meanwhile, a 1TB SSD makes it possible to store an extensive library of games. And you’ll have the fastest access to each of them.
We’ve spent quite a while testing this gadget. And there’s one thing we’d like to note. The model has great gaming potential. However, the results aren’t that good when it comes to working autonomously. This is the most serious drawback we could find in this machine. If you plan to hold all-night gaming rounds, make sure the charger is plugged in.
All in all, the HP Omen 15 laptop is competent, fast, and suitable for mundane uses. It’s all thanks to the modern processors by Intel. But as far as the battery life is concerned, it isn’t the most desirable one. To make up for it, there is a broad variety of ports for different purposes. It even allows you to charge third-party gadgets and peripherals. Besides, you can import content from external devices.

Facts aren’t in favor of the review unit, as we compare it to the rivals. For example, the Zephyrus G14 by ASUS is more compact and has longer battery life. A model from the same series, M15 GU502, also performs better, yet it costs less.
HP Omen 15 Design
Omen 15 is a massive laptop. It is extremely heavy and cumbersome. So if you’re in search of a light and miniature gadget, it may disappoint you. Obviously, portability is not on the list of this machine’s advantages.
It’s simply not suitable for constant transportation. You’ll feel uncomfortable carrying it around on a daily basis. If you regularly commute to work or travel, it’s not a practical choice. Nevertheless, for gaming purposes, the model is just perfect.
Another good thing about the HP Omen 15 laptop is its broad choice of ports. It fits any requirements, including a gaming controller or mouse connection. Charging your smartphone and all sorts of daily needs will also be satisfied.
Among other things, the port selection contains a card reader that works with microSD-type cards. Some users may find it very convenient.
The keyboard is RGB backlit, which is not just a good-looking feature, but also convenient. You’re going to feel confident typing or gaming in your room at night time.
There’s a separate numeric keypad, which may seem a bit large for some people. But we’re quite sure, many users will find it fitting in just right.
An excellent display is worth special praise. The panel with a diagonal of 15.6 inches provides a refresh rate of 144Hz. Picture quality is stunning, ideal for cinematic games, as well as AAA projects.
The HP Omen 15 laptop has an integrated webcam with a 720p resolution. It’s just enough for daily video calls, which are so common nowadays.
All that makes the laptop a versatile and convenient tool for both work and entertainment. As we tested the device under the sunlight, there were some reflections on the screen. However, regardless of that, we could discern the image.
During the video streaming, we couldn’t ignore the sound quality. Bang and Olufsen tune the audio system in this gadget. That means you’ll be completely satisfied with the sound when watching videos. As for the random YouTube stuff, it doesn’t even require connecting headphones or third-party loudspeakers.
However, concerning AAA games, you want to get the most out of their audio design. In this case, a decent pair of headphones or a quality external audio system is optimal.
Performance – Omen 15 Benchmarks
Here are the results of the tests we conducted.
- 3DMark Night Raid was the first test, and it showed the number 34096. Then, Fire Strike scored 13314 points. And, finally, Time Spy displayed 5800 points;
- To check the ability to handle office tasks, we launched PCMark 10 Home. It brought 6044 points;
- Cinebench R20 showed 2560 points;
- For battery test in gaming we used PCMark 10, which brought 3h 15min;
- Geekbench 5 revealed 63548 points;
- We checked Total War: Three Kingdoms. It reached 49 FPS at 1080p in Low mode and 173 FPS at 1080p in Ultra mode;
- Battery performance (Video Test) displayed 3h 40min;
- Metro Exodus’ results are the following: 142 FPS (1080p, Low) | 45.83 FPS (1080p, settings are at Ultra).
Regarding performance, HP Omen 15 is quite responsive and fast. Powerful Intel processors along with 1TB SSD are the reason for it. Nevertheless, the market has more powerful models.
The HP Omen 15 laptop has one particularly interesting feature. It operates on recent Nvidia hardware. We’d like to emphasize that it performs great in modern games. What’s more, the gadget confidently runs the most challenging ones.
Let’s put an example. After playing Death Stranding for several hours at the highest settings, it maintained 80-90 fps. Oftentimes, the number even reached 100 fps, considering that it was a network connection.
As we unplugged and switched to the battery, performance instantly decreased. However, it managed to stay above 30 fps. And this is a standard for the majority of AAA games on consoles.
The HP Omen 15 cooling system is not very loud. Nevertheless, it does produce some noise under load, which is hard to ignore.
In order to test the device, we ran Metro Exodus. It belongs among the most challenging games nowadays. The laptop kept 49 fps at 1080p and Ultra settings. Switching to the Low mode brought a boost in scan rates up to 142 fps.
Total War isn’t less demanding, and we also used it to evaluate the laptop’s capacity. This time, Ultra and Low modes showed 49 and 173 fps respectively.
To test the battery for video, we launched a playback loop in VLC. The display brightness was put at 50%. The device worked for 3 hours and 40 minutes. Compared to rivals, the result isn’t impressive. So for two movies or long gaming rounds don’t forget to plug in.
We applied PC mark 10 using the same settings as above. The gadget lasted 3 hours and 15 minutes. Such battery life remains low for the category. Today’s market has better options in this regard with Zephyrus G14 setting the benchmark.
